Hi Cory,

that sounds good. In this case though, someone was having a problem with
repeatedly hearing messages about smarttag options.

You could also uncheck the indicate autocorrect option under the word
miscellaneous verbosity options in Window-Eyes. If you still want word to
make the corrections but just don't want to know that something has been
autocorrected, that's probably the best way to do it.

Thanks for confirming this Melissa, I'm going to copy the list so others may
know this could help them with smart tag problems.

Hi Chip,

Thank you so much for this tip to turn off the smarttag in 2003, it works!!!
I have been tolerating it and learnt to live with it, as I have also tried
the advance options which Bob mentioned.

best regards,
Melissa

Bob,

I did report another place to Aaron, in Word 2003 at least, where smart tags
needed to be disabled. Maybe it didn't make it into their kb article, or
maybe it doesn't apply to 2007, I never heard back.

As best as I recall, it's in the autotext portion of the options. in 2003,
you would go into the insert menu, choose autotext submenu, and then choose
autotext choice. I'm not sure how to get there in 2007, except I bet
there's a similar place where you can control the autotext options.

In this dialog in 2003, there's a "smart tags" tab, and in that are two
checkboxes for using smarttags which need to be unchecked. One is "label
text with smarttags" and one is "show smarttags actions buttons".

perhaps this is what I reported long ago, and perhaps if you can find these
options, they will make a difference. please let me know.

thanks.

Chip

OK, I went intoWord Options, under the Advanced tab, and unchecked both
"Show smart tags" and "Imbed smart tags", as well as searching theKnowledge
base for anything related to disabling this. However, WE still continues to
speak "smart tag, un-do auto-actions". What the heck is the deal?
This is driving me nuts.

Bob
