Uninstalling eset security suite each time you want to
upgrade/update the program does not sound appealing to me especially
since I have a Vista machine. Is this really true? Did I misunderstand
something and you really just need to install updates like most other
programs?
If eset security suite does require a uninstall and reinstall, what
other security programs come close to the accessibility/compatability
with Window Eyes but are as good as Eset?
Your help/input is appreciated as my version of McAfee that came with my
laptop expires in August.

That's what happens when someone butts in in the middle of a thread.
I began this thread by asking if anyone had a problem of removing a
version of eset security suite on a machine running Vista home premium
edition. The reason I was removing it was because I wanted to upgrade
the software to the current version 4.2. Eset made it quite clear
that it was best to totally remove the previous version and do a clean
install. They also made it clear some systems running Vista and I
believe windows 7 may need a removal tool if you were were
unsuccessful using the uninstall engine in the eset program folder.
So, I made 2 different attemps to uninstall eset from my system. First
I tried removing it by going to programs, to eset, open the eset
folder, then click on the uninstall engine. Towards the end of the
uninstall procedure an error message came up stating that 2 files were
still running and the uninstall was aborted or . So next I unloaded
eset in the system tray thinking this would totally shut down eset,
but after trying to uninstall it again, I ran into the same problem.
So the only other alternative I found on Eset support page was a
removal tool that can only be ram in safe mode which would be rather
difficult without wineyes if the uninstall prompted you during the
procedure.

Well, imaging software allows you to go back to a good known working
condition before mis-behaving software is installed which forces you
to go in to safe mode to remove.
That is, providing, you used it to make an image.
This is good practice for anyone doing any kind of upgrade, or making
any change which might cause this sort of problem.

Get the ESET removal tool. That will do the job.

Has anyone else had a problem removing the software so you can
get the latest release? Eset recommends removing old version
and doing a clean installation. I've been unsuccessful removing
it under window vista premium home edition. Someone on this
list stated they ran the installation right over the previous
version, but I don't want to this as Eset don't recommend it.
