I use treepad for some writing, but not for screenwriting outside of keeping track of notes and other research for screenwriting. Treepad doesn't do any formatting for you which is the main point of a screenwriting package. The packages I have used are Movie Magic Screenwriter and Final Draft. Several new versions of both have gone by since I had the latest version of either, they tend, in my experience, to alternately surpass each other in quality and usefulness of features, so I don't know which one is tops right now. I had no problem using either with Window Eyes, though I haven't used any of them with a version of WE since 6 since I have been doing almost entirely prose writing for some time now and have only recently been interested in getting back into screenwriting projects. Not much help, I know, but I believe both have fully functional demos that allow you to do everything but save and print more than a couple of pages with a watermark indicating the pages were printed using a demo version. There are other packages out there, but those are the ones I know of and are generally considered tops in the industry. There is also an open source package called celtx at www.celtx.org that is becoming more and more popular, but I haven't been able to get it to work with Window Eyes. I read at least one post by someone online that claimed that he got it to work with WE, but was never able to get in contact with the person to find out how he got it to work. It is possible that the problems I had with it were because of system resources and that someone using a better processor, more than 1 Gb of RAM, and/or an OS beyond XP might be able to use it with WE, but I can't say for sure. Every once and a while I search Google for something like Celtx accessibility for blind users and see if anything new has popped up. If you can use this one it would likely be the best since the basic setup is freeware while the other packages are all in the range of just under or over $200 depending on sales and specials. Celtx paid features include things like collaboration tools that give you a certain amount of storage on a celtx server and anyone working on a project can access it via password and make edits and updates and the software can be set up to make changes universal throughout things like the script itself, shooting schedule, call sheets and all of the lists and documents that one might use for a project from a small A/V project to a video game design, to a full length feature shoot. If you can't tell, I really want to use this software. I am currently working on a project with a partner who lives several hundred miles away, so the collaboration features would be absolutely wonderful if I could only get the software to work. Since it is free, you can always try it out and see if you have better luck than I have had so far. Let me know if you do.
