Interesting, I talked to audible support about the problem last Saturday.
They logged into my computer remotely and the download worked. I'm using we
7.2, windows xp with all updates and ie8. Is the following error what has
been reported when browse mode is on?

File Assembly error: Invalid Audio Format.

Hi, using Window-Eyes 7.2 and Firefox 3.6.8 or IE 8.0 I am also not
having trouble downloading from Audible.com. So I don't know exactly
what your question regarding Browse mode rewrite has to do with the new
Audible.com site since it's not related.
We've had a few users call us about download problems, but so far they
have either not been using 7.2 or have not been using IE8. With these
combination on a Windows 7 64-bit machine I can download them.
