I, too, have faced this and usually in Outlook Express or Windows Live
Mail. Occasionally I see it in Word. Sometimes redrawing the screen also
helps me.

RE: Window-Eyes dinging when it should be reading text

Hi Richard,

these seem like good points; I know I've experienced issues involving
having
my application unexpectedly being block by another window, I just can't
remember if that resulted in "dinging", or just not being able to read the
window of my app.

One thing you did remind me of though is that sometimes, I can fix things
by
closing down WE and restarting it (I think it's worth a try before you
have
to try the reboot process, which also has worked).

and of course, I do always try maximizing the window first.

thanks.

Chip

Pat and Chip,

Sometimes I've found the dinging occurs for me when 1) my screen isn't
maximized; or 2) another application has a dialog open or is somehow
displaying something on the screen that interferes with Word or the
application in which I am working. Often, but not always, I can find the
offending application and close it. Sometimes, though, those other
applications have put something that's mostly or entirely graphical on the
screen. I have been able to go to the System Tray and find what's running
and, if something looks unusual--say it's an application I didn't start or
that isn't usually running--I may be able to stop it. I've had flash
application updates show up and cause a problem. I have only found them
when
I flipped through open programs several times. Just flipping through once
wasn't enough. Finally, once the window in which MS Word was displayed
somehow was pushed up into the corner of the screen--at least that's how
the
person providing sighted assistance described it. To fix this required
dragging the open window back into the middle of the screen. It's a
mystery
to me how that happened. Finally, I've resorted to shutting down and
restarting the computer, which does help some of the time.

Well, I hope there's something here that might help. Good luck.

Hi Pat,

I know how you feel, this sometimes happens to me as well, and it is
annoying not to be able to get to the text you need.

unfortunately, I cannot make it happen on demand, and GW can't fix a
problem
they can't make happen.

if you have some way of reliably making it happen every time, please send
it
to [email protected] and let them know.

thanks.

Hi Everyone,

There are many times, when I'm trying to edit something, especially in
Eudora, or in Windows Live Messenger, and Window-Eyes just dings when I
try
to arrow to the right or left to read the text, so I can edit it.

This is getting very old. I hope GW Micro can fix this problem, please.
<smile>

Thanks much.
