I did run SpyBot for about a year or so. It works pretty well, with WE. And, as someone already has pointed out, it does have a particular 'blind-mode', which will give you some easier ways to operate it. Personally, though, I did realize, that it was far more easy to make a .bat file, that would run a scan on my system. Then I diddn't have to fool around with any menus, whatsoever.

The main reason why I did throw out Spybot, is its speed. Or, would I rather say, lack of speed. To do a scan on a system, with a 30gig hard drive, it took me several hours. Ok, the computer wasn't new and fast, yet, I didn't find it very convenient with all that slowness.

Someone on this list, kindly refered me to SUPERANTISPYWARE. Although not being free, it does offer a lifetime subscription for less than thirty dollars. And, now, with more like 200gig, I can run a full scan in just about 20 minutes. Go figure the difference in time. I further realized that Spybot might not have catched up with all malware on my computer, since I had a few strange things happening to the system, while it was running. After installing SuperAntiSpyware, close to two years ago, I have had little trouble on my system.

Far as I know, Spybot is run by ONE person. Even if that person - or a tiny staff - are doing their best, they will have a hard time on keeping optimized. For most users, though, this will be enough for a security, and it is free. Yet, if you want to stay a bit more up to date, and have your spyware automatically updating whenever new things are out (which means at least quite often), you'd be better off, with a paid for service. Yes, Spybot does have the feature for Auto-Updating, but to turn that one on, you will be left with a yearly fee of I do believe ten dollars.

To me, at least, I'd rather pay a lifetime subscription for SuperAntiSpyware, which automatically keeps my system up-to-date; and that's from a company. This might mean more staff, better chance of keeping optimized, and lead to a bit more scurity. Again, if you can stick with the slow speed, a higher amount of resource hogging, and want to do it for free, Spybot is a good alternative, and might even be the best, for blind people. If you, on the other hand, do want to go for high performance, have your system automatically updated, and can afford the lifetime subscription; I'd rather suggest for you to try SuperAntiSpyware. They do have a trial version, which is fully functional for a couple of weeks. Download, install, run and see for yourself.

Hope this was of any help to you. After all, this all cooks down to a matter of taste, and what you are after. Main thing is, for you to find something that will work for you, and that will give you the necessary amount of security. Good thing is, Spybot is free, easy to install, and not too hard to get rid off. So, you might as well try out both alternatives, and see what you think.

One small note, of which I am not sure, if it is still applicable. I did pay for the Auto-update feature in Spybot, for one year. When doing so, the software did install a tiny add-on. This one add-on, my AntiVirus did complain about. It is told to be a so called 'false-possitive', and they told me, it was safe to let the AntiVirus accept the add-on. This might likely have been addressed, and fixed, the last couple of years. Yet, just in case, now you know. I've never experienced similar trouble with SuperAntiSpyware; without that meaning anything further.

How well does it work with WE 7.2?
