Nuance PDF Reader has the option to upload the file and let it be converted to text. I use this, if I get a image only pdf file e.g. a fax via mail etc. So if you have a internet connection on the computer where you want to read the file, this is a easy to use free method. note, that you cannot read pdf files in this nuance reader, because it does not show you text in pdf files. But the conversion is fully accessible.

I know something like Kurzweil will do OCR on the PDF; so will Adobe acrobat 9 professional (the paid version, not the free reader).
