Hi Janet, WE doesn't have any special keys for creating tables, or anything else in Word I can think of; it's up to you to use the correct Word menus or shortcut keys.
I'm using mostly 2003 at work, and I use the insert menu you mentioned to create a table. if things ever slow down at work, I'm supposed to start migrating our applications over to 2010, and so I'll get some experience using the later versions of Word.
