Good idea Steve. FYI to everyone, when talking off-list, what we found did the trick was for him to go into the view menu and turn off the task pane (which takes up a lot of window real estate on the right), and then to turn off a lot of the toolbars he wasn't using (which take up window space on the top).
this seemed to solve the issue for him.
