I updated the scripts before I got the error message. Also, now the
mouse keys don't work in the Playlist window, except numpad5 which says
"center". Previously, I had the keys set not to speak, as in "X" or
"v", but now they speak, and I'm not sure what changed.

I tried installing and updating the scripts for Winamp which seems to do it
for now.

Hi Chris and thanks for trying. My problem is that the "winamp.000"
file to which the error message refers doesn't seem to exist.
Winamp.set does exist, and updating the settings says "no files found".
I've tried to associate Winamp with winamp.set and with "none", and both
produce the same result, both when opening the program and when pressing
l to add files to the Playlist for example. It's probably just a
comprehension failure at this end, but I might learn something about
associations if I understood this error message better.
Also, from Winamp's Playlist window, control+backslash appears not to
work. I have to go to Winamp's main window to get the W-E control panel
to come up.

Hi all.
Not sure if I can help you but I have read that updating the outdated
sets should clear it. Apparently it's in the file menu of the new WE
interface.
Take care.

On my machine running XP, Winamp loads with the error "the file
winamp.000 is not a valid set file". The problem is I can find no such
file. I can find winamp.set and I've tried to set the association to
none, or to winamp.set. But this error persists. After the beta repeats
this error message about 4 times, everything calms down. This is
probably me, but how do I fix it?
Thanks
