I'm just resending one of my previous messages but with some added findings
which may be related as a whole:

------

Downloaded the 7.5 beta. I just noticed something peculiar to me. I was
doing a search on bookshare.org. While at the very top of the page (with
browse mode loaded), bringing up the list of links with insert-tab takes
about two seconds for speech to return. That's more than slow enough.
However, this isn't the slowest. When I'm at the very bottom of the page
(from within browse mode), it takes twice as long for speech to return when
bringing up the list of links. That's right. It takes about four seconds to
get some speech feedback while at the bottom of the page, and again, about a
full two seconds when at the top.

Does anyone know what's going on here? Just curious. I'm using Vista 32
Business edition on a Dell Core 2 Duo 2.1Ghz with 3 gigs of ram. I was
definitely hoping for a speed improvement with WE'S responsiveness, but thus
far, I haven't seen it anywhere at all.

Thanks for your feedback, and as a long time WE user since about 1990, my
comments are only meant to be constructive with the goal of crushing the
competition to truly be the best screen reader out there anywhere.

Another thing I found on the bookshare site and on the www.buycheapr.com
site is that the mouse search feature with control+shift+f is also quite
sluggish. Pretty slow. What's interesting is that, the time length for the
results to be displayed when this hotkey is pressed is random. Let me
briefly illustrate. I'm in browse mode. I hit the hotkey, and the count down
is on. 1, 2 seconds. Then I close the box.

I repeat the process, and now it takes about four seconds. I enter the
hotkey again, and it still takes about four seconds. I do it again, and this
time, it takes about two seconds for the speech to begin.

Neither time had I scrolled down the page or moved down the page from within
browse mode with the up/down arrows between hotkey presses. This happens
both at the top and at the very bottom of the page.

Actually, it occurs on any web page anywhere on the page.

Another area WE is very inconsistent on reading is when I use the page
up/down keys to read the previous and next lines of text. It's slow slow
slow, and sometimes, it's slower than even that. I'm using the WE Eloquence
synth. Haven't tested it with the WE Dectalk, but it's probably the same
thing.

Even in selecting whole lines of text within this email, using outlook 2007,
WE is extremely slow in giving feedback. It's really terrible and needs much
improvement.

Seriously. Thanks again,

Andre
