I am using Windows XP SP3, with MSE as my virus protection. My problem with Firefox has been the exact opposite. The only time I've totally lost speech was once when my whole system was locked up, and I didn't truly lose speech then, I would get brief bursts of speech when things would start moving again for a moment. But ever since upgrading to the beta, I get regular crashes of Firefox, I am using the latest 3.6 version, not the 4 beta. The crashes happen most often when I open a new window or when I click on a feed entry in the WebIE accessible RSS reader and it opens a new tab for the entry I selected.

I also had hoped that the beta would fix my odd browse mode issue of having auto load stop working, but it hasn't. I still find auto load going off with Eudora, Firefox and IE 8 on a regular basis. One minute all will be fine, the next I will open an email in Eudora or go to a new webpage in Firefox or IE and will have to turn browse mode back on. Sometimes if I go into the WE settings it will show the global auto load as off and I will turn it back on and save the settings and other times it will show as still on despite what has just happened and I will turn it off and on again and save the settings anyway in hopes that it will stay on longer this time. It is possible though, that in the case of the times it is on when I check, that I have turned it on manually by reflex after dealing with the problem so long and thus that the setting is really off in the control panel every time this happens. Obviously this isn't a 7.5 problem since I had it before, but the new interface has allowed me to see that the setting is indeed slipping regardless of my saving it.

Outside of these issues the only other problem I have had so far is a couple of instances of running into the issue where I can't get into the WE control panel, when this happens I get the Windows unhappy bonk sound and nothing happens, but on the rare occasions where this has happened, I have been able to use the Kill Wineyes script to shut WE down and restart it and the problem is gone. Outside of these, I have found 7.5 to be very stable and much more responsive. I haven't run into any sluggishness, or if I have it wasn't severe enough or repeatable enough for me to recall. I really like the new interface and if I could just get these Firefox crashes and the auto load issues fixed it would be even better.

Regards,

Chris

        hello gw staff,

i have had several window-eyes 7.5 beta total crashes today while running
firefox v3.6
there has been two different results with these crashes.
the only way i have been able to find out just what has happened is by
launching nvda.
the first type of crash took me by supprise, as wineyes suddenly went quiet
and alt tabbing around and waiting didn't result in the speech coming back.
when i launched nvda and looked in task manager there was no wineyes, so
wineyes had completely closed itself down.
i closed nvda and re-launched wineyes and it came up speaking but instantly
wanted to send a report to gwmicro which was sent successfully.
this has happend more than once today.
the second type of crash was similar in that wineyes would suddenly go
silent but when i launched nvda i would find wineyes still listed as
running in the task manager.
the only way to get the speech back up and running was to do an end task on
it, close nvda and then re-launch wineyes.
the difference this time was that when wineyes started it didn't want to
report that it had had a problem so i presume that for some reason wineyes
didn't think it had crashed.
and again this has happened several times today, even after restarting the
computer.
i don't think it is a firefox problem as when these crashes happened when i
launched nvda i alt tabbed to the firefox window and was able to navigate
the page and open other pages without a problem with nvda speaking
everything ok.
i'm running windows vista fully up to date on a 2.6ghz dual core processor
with 6gb of ram.
 .
pete.
