Hi Ralf,

Here at work we are very tightly controlled over which software we put
on our PCs. I therefore needed to check with our PC Support guy about
downloading these utilities.

He has pointed out to me that in Windows XP and above there is a
standard operating System facility for this: task kill

taskkill /f /im outlook.exe
Seems to do it.

I am not suggesting that this might be better or worse, just that it is
now in the OS.

John,

I use pskill from sys internals to do the job.
You can download it here:
http://download.sysinternals.com/Files/PsTools.zip
Unpack it where ever you want and create a shortcut on your desktop to
the
pskill.exe with the parameter -t outlook.exe and give it a short-key
like
control-alt-k.
So, if outlook, means WE, hangs, I hit control-alt-k, Outlook gets
killed
and speech comes back.

Good luck,
  Ralf

Hi Ralf and thank you for the tip about saving the note.

How do you kill Outlook without speech please?

I can confirm this behavior with Outlook 2007 and WE 7.2/7.5. WE
occasionally hangs when the spell check dialog comes up or when the new
mail
notification window pops up.
John, in this cases do not kill WE, instead kill outlook and restart it.
Killing outlook brings WE back. So, I always press control-s before
pressing
control-enter, just to have the mail in my drafts folder.

Regards,
  Ralf

Subject: WE 7.5 Loss of Speech, Outlook 2007

I am using WE 7.5 on a Windows XP SP3 PC with Office 2007.

I did not run the beta here on my work PC.

I installed WE 7.5 when the AP Reminder informed me it was ready to
install.

On more than 3 occasions now I have lost speech from WE and found the
only
corrective action that would work was a reboot of the PC.

On each occasion speech was lost at the same point.

I have read an e-mail and wanted to pass my thanks on to the sender, but
not
all of the recipients.
Keystrokes were <control>R followed by my words, then <control><enter>.
At this point speech was lost.
I tried killing WE, which worked. I then re-launched WE. No speech
resulted.
I re-launched WE again. I then got the beep which indicates WE is
already
running, but not speaking.

I have outlook set to do a spelling check before it sends and e-mail. My
suspicion is that things go wrong when doing that spelling check.

As this is an occasional error I do not want to run this PC without
spelling
checking switched on.

I had hoped that this outstanding issue might have gone with the new
release. This has been in the "bug list" for some time now.

Thanks.
