That is not entirely accurate re bookshare. Bookshare is free to students in
the US or you can scan or check books that have been scanned and get a
reduction in what bookshare charges for its annual fee.

Have you tried sites like Bookshare.org, or RFB&D?  They don't 
charge, and the last time I looked, there were a log of books on 
programming.  Since they're in Daisy format, they might already be 
broken down into chapters, etc.
