Gill,
Download the Thunderbird addon, attachment extractor and your troubles
will be over. It is very easy to setup and will place a copy of each
attachment in the folder you nominated in the setup.
I have been using it for years and would not be without it.

Tried using the numbpad 3 key, but can't find the attachment.
Window-Eyes tells me that there is one attached to the e-mail in question.
