I can't help you with Casper, but maybe I can help a bit with the other quesitons.
I think the advanced checkbox is on the firewall tab under settings which is in the file menu. As to the windows, they are perfectly accessible, just not in focus, so you may have to alt-tab till you get to them and they are always separate windows, so that is the advantage.
