The 32-bit programs work fine on windows 7 64. The only exceptions are some ancient hardware where you may not be able to find drivers. I have a 32 and a 64-bit computer on windows 7. Sound quits randomly on the 32-bit machine, and it has never done that on the 64. Window-eyes is a lot less stable on the 32-bit machine as well, I don't know if the 32 vs 64 is the difference, or if there is some other hardware problem, but consider whether you want to own the last of an old technology or not.

i do not really understand why people are pushing the 64 bit os cause if
that would be the only os out there then what happens to the 32 bit
programs that people use, if no 64 bit version is made? for that os?

The point is moot at this point. No computers should be shipping
with 32 bit OS now unless specificly requested by the buyer to
    support legacy hardware.

If there were a point it would be the longtail. In other words, if
you are spending 800 to a grand and expecting the laptop to last 3
years you want 64 bit. If you are spending 300 and want the laptop
to last a year then it may not make any difference.

I thought there was little point buying the 64 Bit version unless
you had specific software which was going to make use of the
operating system? Most software is still 32 Bit.

    Hi Shannon,
I have win 7 home premium 64 bit. It’s a far cry better than
Vista. I would suggest you think about the 64 bit version. A few
more bells and whistles and a lot more things are going to go to
64 bit. You can still run your 32 programs on the 64 system.
