Tracy,

A lot of companies are using citrix. This software sets up a virtual
desktop on a remote server for you. Without making changes on the remote
servers, WE won't work. For the I.T. departments to install the WE software
on each citrix server would require installation time and a reboot. Since
the usual installation of citrix can span multiple servers, I mean
potentially hundreds, this becomes unweildy and could cause unacceptable
amounts of down time for the company. When it does work, it is quite flakey
and slow.

The best solution is to have a vpn(virtual private network) connection.
This way, all of the desktop functionality is local to your computer and
only the network traffic is sent/received on your computer.

There are 2 main reasons companies like citrix. The first is expense. The
cost, per user, is considerably less with citrix. Software licensing.
There isn't a need to buy a license per individual user. Rather, there is a
block of concurent user license utilized.

Iwas released from a project due to the same issue. When I started, we all
had vpn. The client demanded citrix and I wasn't able to reliably work. I
truly hope that someone comes to the table with a workable solution very
soon.

Warm Regards.. Joe Lanier

Subject: A question about software and telecommuting for the blind

Hello.
The next question I have is about telecommuting software and how accessible
it is with Window-Eyes.
I had an interview with a particular telecommuting company and was pretty
much turned down by that company because in the past Blind applicants had
complained that the software was not usable as far as going between multiple
windows on the screen in these applications.
I was also told that the companies they contract with have special software
used for a particular job.
Has anyone here on the list had any experience with software used from these
telecommuting companies or is anyone on the list employed by a telecommuting
company that could point me in the right direction?
Seems as though most of these companies turn down blind screen reader users
for reasons stated above.
Tracy Son..
