Hi: Since I recently experienced this on my display, I did some googling and it appears that that windows 7 has some kind of choice to make the screen display fade at some point. It was mentioned mostly for saving battery usage in lap tops, but, also works with desktops. It is in the power settings, but, I have not tried it. When my screen faded, a reboot brought the display back. It seems as if it can be set to dim when sleepmode, shutdowns, and resume. In any case, I am not going to fool with it.
