It is not an all or nothing. YOu can have firefox 11 which is the current so called stable release and 14. Just install to different folders. In fact, you can have all 4 11 thru 14 if you want. So if yOu can't log on with 14 you can use 11. So the problem is solved. YOu get the latest features, the fastest browser and 1 that any place will let you use if there
    is a problem.

First, you do not have to let firefox update automatically.  You can
turn that off in advanced options.  I let it tell me there are updates
which is what is mean by automatic updates.  Firefox does not
automatically update in the background no matter what the setting.
Firefox 14 the nightly build works great, it is fast and works with
webvisum and most add-ons.  You can get it at
http://nightly.mozilla.org
