And, just to chime in here, the same can be performed in MaPlEr. You
don't even have to tab through a line of edit boxes. You simply press
the letter C, type in the number of seconds to skip, in the
Minute:Second format, and hit Enter. Job is done. You even can do
absolute skipping, meaning 1 minute 2 seconds into the track; or you
could do relative skip+ping, meaning 1 minute 5 seconds further on into
the song, from where you are at the given point. Or, How about doing it
backward - going 2 minutes and seven seconds backward in the track, to
get the info repeated?
What's more, MaPlEr can be set to automatically skip a given number of
seconds (just multiply with 60 to get the minutes), at any, or all, the
files in your playlist. So, if you are listening to an audiobook, that
has some kind of an intro to each chapter - which would be the case with
books from Librivox for instance - you set the player to skip this
intro, and can enjoy your audiobook like never before. Furthermore,
MaPlEr will let you skip trailing silences, in both ends, of a track.
Meaning, that if your song has been recorded with 10 seconds of no sound
in the end of the track, the player will simply skip these seconds, and
move on to the next track.
On top of it all, MaPlEr is TOTALLY accessible - with no set files, no
apps to be installed. Simply just install the software, which is very
light on system resources, installs in a minute, and you will be all
set. Right out of the box.
Well, just to let you all know, since it seems that same feature will be
posssible in different software, but I bet, there is a couple of extra
goodies, that you can do in MaPlEr, which you might not find in any
other software on the market.

As Chris said, Winamp is very good, but I like Real Player, simply
because of it's Seek function. You press control-e and then you can
type the hour, minute and second where you want to start playing the
file.
For instance, if you are listening to an MP3 tutorial, and you want to
skip the first 20 minutes because you have alreadyy heard it, press
control-e, the type 0 in the hour field, tab once and type 20, then
tab to the Seek button and press the spacebar.
Of course, you need to make sure that you delete everything from the
fields mentioned above before you start typing.
