I don't use Firefox, so I don't know if this will solve everything. But
with newer versions of Firefox and Thunderbird you have to disable
direct 2D and graphics acceleration. Here's the GW knowledge base
article on how to do this:

Dear listers and staff:
With the help of another lister, I managed to uninstall Firefox 3.6
(which did not want to go away) and downloaded and installed Firefox 11.
It acted in a very strange and unsettling manner. I also uninstalled the
mischievous container.exe.
When I clicked on the icon for FF11, it took about 30 to 40 seconds for
the program to open. After that, if I clicked on a link on the web page,
it took another 30 to 40 seconds before the link activated. I ccould
then read the page with read-to-end but I cannot move about the page
with either the the physical or keyboard mouse.
In the case of the New York Times, for instance, after the page loaded
Window Eyes started to read (what I presume was the first 25 lines) and
it wass all code. Sometimes I could stop this with the down arrow but
sometimes nothing would stop this reading until it had finished. And if
there was a link within a paragraph, WE again read the code and not the
text.But. the really strange result – after FF 11 reluctantly closed,
everything on my computer continued to act as if molasses had been
poured over the CPU. This happened no matter what application I open.
After shutting down the sysstem, again reluctantly, and rebooting,
everythingwas back to normal.
Firefox finally crashed at one point, so I ssent a crash report to
Mozilla, but had no response.
Since the above installation, I have loaded and removed FF 11 a number
of times. I have made certain there were no remaining files and also
deleted the few files in the Registry.FF no lopnger clogs up my system
but still takes up to 45 seconds to respond to a link on the Web.
Sorry this is so wordy – but hard for me to explain.
Is there something I need to do in WindowEyes to solve this probllem?
Any help would be appreciated.
Many thanks.
Running Windows 7 35-bit . and WE 7.5.4.1
