Lou, I didn't find this to be the case in word 2010. I started a new doc like you said and typed in a few short sentences with single spaceing and the sentence command worked like you said. I then went back and added a few more sentences with the two spaces between sentences and it still worked.
Is it a WE beta thing or a word thing?
