It doesn't work on my Win7 machine running WE 7.5.41
Plus, the selection is still up on the tree view.

I note that on my win8 machine running WE 8.0 beta the setting
for changing from characters to words etc is no longer in the tree
menu. I stumbled upon it and learned it's now a rotor accessed by
hitting insert 2.
I also note that this change is not present in the beta running on Windows 7.
