First I would suggest trying to read the focused window by pressing control+shift+w. may be there is a message there that might provide a clue to the problem.
If that doesn't yield any results, try shutting down, disconnecting and reconnecting the keyboard and mouse if you have one, then power up. Finally if the keyboard and mouse are wireless, replace the batteries or charge them up depending on what setup you have for those devices.
