Aloha to all,
I seem to experience this problem after my computer returns from sleep.
I can use the mouse , but I prefer to log off,
because all is back to normal in less than 20 seconds

Good luck, Manny

Hi Tom
yes I tried windows key and the letter d but didn't do anything. I tried windows key and the letter m, but again no luck. However I am able to use the mouse via the numeric key pad, and select the icon I want that way. Thanks again Rick

Thank you all for your suggestions and help on my desktop problem. I
tried all of them and no go. I still hear desktop no selected item when
I tab to the icons but focus still will not return. I can struggle
through and try other tricks to get it to work. Thanks again Rick

you might try shift tabbing once off the desktop, the tabe once to get
back on. this often works to restore focus and the desktop will read
as it should.

Subject: Loosing focus on desktop

Hello list
Has anyone had this problem. I am running windows 8 and window eyes 8.1 on a hp desktop with 6 gigs of ram. If I unload win eyes to use a game that has it own speech and then come back and reload win eyes I can tab
around the desktop but none of the icons I have there are spoken, it
only says desktop no selected item. I try arrowing down or up or even
sideways to select one of my icons there but it will not do so. Is
there anything I can do to keep focus even when I unload win eyes? The
only way I can get it back to normal is by rebooting the machine. I
don't really want to do that every time. Thanks Rick
