Yes, the company is InfoVox, or that is what they originally was named.
Think they are called Acapela Group, by now.
Far as I have come to know, you cannot buy any of their voices directly. You
will have to go through a dealer. At least, all my queries, through several
years, I have always ended up with that one answer: Go to a dealer. If you
are living in the USA, my best suggestion would be, go to Nextup.com. Buy
one of their products, and then some of the Acapela voices. By default the
voice will be tied to the Nextup product, but for an extra fee, you can get
the necessary software to unlock the voice, that you can use it for all
activity on your computer.
If you are not living in the USA, you can still buy Nextup products and
Acapela voices, but nextup are not allowed to sell the unlocking software
outside USA. And, when I contacted a local dealer here, they did not
acknowledge the voices bought from Nextup. They insisted on having me buy
everything from scratch. And, they knew what price would put jam on their
toast. :) Had I been able to buy everything from Nextup, I would have ended
up for less than three hundred dollars. Locally, they wanted to charge me
1300 dollars. Go figure who's burger will have tomatoes on it. :)
Unfortunately, Acapela are quite complicated, comes to licensing. And, they
want things done exactly their way. Has been the big drqwback of them for
all their time. I started using them way back in the 80's, and have had a
few cases of licensing trouble. What exactly are you looking for? It's too
bad all that hazzle, since their voices tend to be quite superior to many of
the others on the market. And, had they loosened a bit on the licensing,
they could easily have offered things for a more affordable price, and have
sale go up.
