I am not sure what version of Windows you are running and having this information would make it easier for us to help you troubleshoot this issue. Assuming you are still running Windows XP, it is imperative that you disable Adobe Reader's protected mode options as this will render all PDFs inaccessible. You can find the relevant options by opening Adobe's preferences dialog with Control-K, going to the "security enhanced" tree view item, and unchecking the protected mode check boxes. Once you restart Adobe Reader, you should be able to read your documents again, assuming that they were authored correctly. I hope you find this information helpful.
