When I start gmail, the first option I hear is to change to basic HTML But
even with basic HTML I can't figure out how to read the emails.if-----

You want to change the basic setting to html setting then you can
navigate
your folders and messages.

Actually it works very well on the web. Just make sure the standard
view is changed to html view and your all set.
