Mary,

The combination of Firefox along with the NoScript and AdBlock Plus add-ons should give you very similar results to what you are accustomed to in Safari.

Hello all,

I've become rather fond of web surfing on the mac and on my i-devices,
because of one lovely feature built in to Safari known as the "reader".
What this enables one to do is to read the text of an article without
being interrupted by unwanted junk, such as google ads, twitter and
face-book frames, etc. I understand that JAWS has a feature which, if
one takes the time, can be used to hide certain website elements, such
that they will not be read out to you as you peruse a given site. I
don't own JAWS, and I'm not interested in a screen reader war. But I
will say that, while this reader feature is not perfect and is not
always available, it makes reading articles a whole lot more efficient,
not to mention pleasant. I believe the feature is part of Safari, not
part of VoiceOver screen reader. So I wonder if there is some
equivalent that is part of a web browser that works well with Window
Eyes. I admit that this problem is particularly irritating when
browsing non-English sites, where the speech synthesizer attempts to
read those annoying interjections, ads, unwanted frames etc, in totally
unintelligible speech. But even if that problem is solvable, it would
be awfully nice to just envoke read to end and hear the entire text of
the article uninterrupted by a bunch of extraneous garbage.
