Well my friend the wall street journal doesn't agree with you. Cnet doesn't
agree with you the number of people who are blind who are buying android
tablits don't agree with you either. You can be wrong if you like. That is
your choice. No one cairs one way or the other. Gw micro on the other hand
can't afford to be wrong. The market right now is in tablits and phones.
The pc doesn't luse anything from the support of tablits and phones. Lets
use jaws and NVDA as an example. Jaws just added touch support the method
they used to do this was to allow the user to brows threw the object tree
using UIA then they added this support on the keyboard. Thus making some
programs that need this support like a number of modern apps very accessable
from the keyboard. NVDA allows for the browsing of objects in a tree
structure on the keyboard using I accessability UIA MSAA they call this
object nathagation. Very similar to what synthavoice had with window
bridge and the window pad. All they did here was add touch jestures to allow
the user to move threw the screen using what was already there. Guess what
when they were working on this they found ways to make the features they
already had better and gave you access to modern apps. Most computers will
come with a touch screen even if they are the old style laptops and
ddesktops so why shouldn't a blind person have the option of using these
devices if they wish. If gw micro ignores these devices then the blind
people who do actually want to use them will not get window-eyes or keep it
updated. Sorry if gw micro came to me and said jim we are going to ignore
the touch interface for ever and we are just going to focus on the old style
pc alone I would probably if what I think is going to happen happens have to
say well I loved using window-eyes but it is not going to keep up with what
I need it to do. you have to follow the market if you are a company like gw
micro and the market is going touch like it or not.
Now how does the user of window-eyes gain if they don't want touch buy
adding touch support. Well first a person who only has the use of one
digit who can not speak who is also blind can use the computer. Because what
was done with touch could also be maid to work with the keyboard or a
helment or a jesture system when that replaces touch at some point.
Programs that don't have good keyboard support might be useable just buy
using the added touch commands on a keyboard. Working with touch means that
gw micro will at some point have to invest time and effort to get the
voice input features of windows working. Something that should have been
done a long time ago. Really what do you luse? Oh and if we get to the
phone stage where we are running windows pro on a phone you are going to
need that touch support.
Like I said you can be wrong that is your choice but a company like gw micro
can't afford to ignore where the market is going. If they do they will die.
Plain and simple. Laptops and desktops has we used to know them are
becoming a thing of the past. Tablit phones and hybrid laptops are the
now.

Subject: window eyes on a tablet

I see no need for this. Not everyone is going to go by a tablet.
Primary focus should be on the pc and laptop if tablet support is added
it can't ilimate the pc support Just because a few people want it is
everyone going to run out and by one? No so focus absolutely needs to be on
the computers.
