Hi Chris,
Thanks for this. A note about this, however; this add-on allows you to
use Escape to close messages only if the radio button called Open
Messages In is set to A New Tab. You get to this setting by going to
the Tools menu, and choose Options. Then, go to the Advanced tab, and
it is the third control on the Reading and Display tab; specifically, it
is the second radio button, which unfortunately Window-Eyes doesn't read
the field name for; the field is Open Messages In;so, just set it to A
New Tab.
Of course, the help documentation for the TB Enhanced app does not
recommend this setting, preferring, rather, to set this control to A New
Window. However, I don't think it is essential; it is a preference; the
only disadvantage of opening messages in a new tab is that, once you
open a particular message, you can't get back to your main Thunderbird
window unless you close your current message. If you wanted to do that,
you would have to open a new tab containing a particular folder, say,
your inbox folder; then, you would be able to switch between tabs, the
hot key for this being Control-Shift-T, which happens to be a
Window-Eyes hot key, so you would have to bypass it. Note that you
would have had to open the desired folder ina separate tab prior to
opening any message, however, unless I'm mistaken. Regardless of the
setting of the Open Messages In setting, however, new messages always
open in a new window, never a new tab, in my experience.
Sorry for all the detail everyone, but I just thought I'd pass along the
fruits of my enquiry thus far. Thanks a lot, again, Chris.
Enjoy,
Rod

Try the thunderbird extension, close tab on ESC.
