My ITunes was taking several minutes to react, which I finally
decided had to be because of the 46.2k plus sound files it scanned in.
Does anyone know why the Organize button in the dialog where you
uninstall programs, within the Windows Control Panel, doesn't say
that it's more than an ordinary button? Thanks to the one who told
me to arrow right once on that button to find the uninstall
button. I never would have found it otherwise.
The advice was correct that uninstalling ITunes wouldn't get rid of
the library, and it would show up on a reinstall. However, I was
able to clean out the ITunes library by deleting the folders called
Apple, Apple Computer, and ITunes in my libraries, including the App
Data folder.
So, finally, I started out fresh again. I have since managed to add
some folders to my library and create 2 playlists. My next attempt
will be to burn a CD with one playlist and then to sync an IPod to
the other playlist, or both.
When I first did the scan of my computer, it put all sound files
under music; and this included movies, TV shows, podcasts, books,
Windows sounds, webinars, and so on. I have a lot of music, but this
was really overwhelming to the ITunes program. I'll just add a
little at a time as I need the folders.
I still don't like that it only uses tag info to sort by artist,
album, genre, etc. If the tags aren't there, you can play hell
finding it. I guess you'd have to rely on a search, but that won't
give you all the files that were in an artist and/or album folder
originally. If you only buy stuff from ITunes, I suppose this isn't
a problem. With homemade recordings, such as mine of our friends
classical guitar concerts, had no tags. the only way to deal with
that was to type in the info for each of the 20 tracks one at a time.
At least I am finally getting somewhere though.
Thanks to all those who gave their suggestions and advice. It took
me a while to sort it out, try things, and get where I am now; but I
couldn't have done it without the help from all of you.
Thanks so much!
