Hi, This is a case of having the right tools for the right job. You will need to sets of tools to get this done. you will need to be able to read the file.
First you will want something like K-Lite Codecs, or CCCP. You can get this from http://ninite.com/ most youtube videos these days are in mp4 format. Most audio convertion software will handle this format with out anything extra. That being said youtube still has a lot of flash videos up there and some AVI files, as well as some other formats. These pakages solve this problem buy adding the filters needed to and other types. -----Original Message----- deal with these formats. They are direct show filters that is used buy windows media player and buy windows media foundation. Most converters will be able to use the direct show filters to decode and in some cases incode formats that are not directly supported buy the converter in question. Now you have the tools to read the file. You now need the tools to convert the file. There are a number of tools that you can use to get this job done. winamp and GoldWave are two very useful tools to get this done. Now go get GoldWave. http://www.goldWave.com. Why GoldWave? It is a powerful audio editor and you might think over kill for the job your trying to do. in fact it is. That being said it is the easyist converter to use. It will provide you with speech feed back when it is done. it you need to merge files in to one audio files like for the pesky youtube videos that are split up in to five parts when one would have done nicely. Not only that but if you find your self working with a number of files that are to loud or quiet you can fix the problem at the same time you perform the convertion. This is what you need. If you need help on how to use the tools let me know. I've got a few videos where all I need is the audio. Is there any way I can extract the video and save it in an mp3 of some sort? I'd like to find some way to do this using window-eyes.
