Hi Max,

Yes, we all owe a lot to Jamal; however, it's not that his apps have been
downgraded in importance, but more that he's involved in many many projects,
and he's only one person (and last I knew employed full time as well as all
that he does, always for free).

So, I don't think he's had much time for maintenance of his apps. Still, as
Kevin points out, they usually still work just fine; surprisingly, amazingly
well given how little maintenance he's done since releasing them. I wish my
apps worked that well with no maintenance!

Chip

Subject: When Apps Were Scripts

Back at the dawn of W.E. scripting, a whole bunch of scripts were done by
JaMal mazrui, author of EdSharp among others. These included Homer Shared
Object, not Home Shared Object BTW.

It served as a support to other scripts, much as GW Toolkit does today.
Among these scripts was Polyglot.

It did use Google at first. What a shame that Google got greedy and
didn't allow an API to make limited use of its service.

Anyway, all these scripts for some reason have been replaced or downgraded
in importance, though they worked well. "Lookup Term" is another example.

I hope we will see a fuller reintegration of these as apps, since lots of
work was put in so there'd be seed scripts to download in those early
days, which were not after all that long ago.
