I agree. I am finding it extremely frustrating when I try clicking on
links that dont work.

Many Many years ago now GW indicated that a total new rewrite of browse
mode was needed to make WE work well with the Web. Over that same
number of years GW made some changes to browse mode but it was never
given top priority over other changes to WE. No complete rewrite of
browse mode was ever released. Using WE with the web now with either
the latest versions of IE or Firefox seems to be getting worse with so
many links that do nothing when you try to open them and so many links
and other controls on the web pages that WE does not see as a control
yet can be easily clicked on by a sighted person. This makes the Web
experience on many pages useless and you work through several pages to
get to something and end up on a page where the control is not
accessible by WE. Dam shame that GW could not have finally fixed
browse mode before selling off WE.
