As the Cloud, which is just the Web, which is just the Net, takes over the
world, W.E. or any other screenreader *must* incorporate, or our access is
in peril. In short, I'm talking about a SUSPEND command with real teeth!
It needs to incorporate the following:
<1> Ability to work about the same with either major browser. (Using
Firefox isn't just some political statement, it does lots of things
better.)
<2> It must have a sense for when the page is truly and fully loaded.
<3> It must allow full interaction by the user from the suspended or
buffered page as browse mode now does; however, there must be as close
to a seamless exit from the buffered page as possible, along with
loading of the next destination.
<4> There may well need to be some user parameters to set, i.e.
huristics level to be used, most important type of elements on the
page; this is kind of like the old terminal emulation choices we made
in Commo and such programs.
<5> Progress indicators should be user-settable. Something like
K1000's "confidence level" might provide a bbridge and diagnostic
tool as this True Suspend is being impelemented.
Having run across 5 Web sites in the last hour that were unusable for lack
of this, I feel it's got to get a high priority. Thanks for letting me
bend the collective ear of the list.
