When there are no progress bars, and the percentage is not being reported automatically, try reading your progress in the title bar, with ctrl-shift-t. Otherwise try the mouse keys by pressing the "upper-right corner", then coming down with first the mousekeys or numpad-8, then numpad 2 keys. Usually its reported on the last line of that window readable in that window. Hope that's clear.
