Here is another tip: do not run disk defrag if you have an SSD hard drive. It does not work the same as other drives and will shorten their lives.

1. Type windows-r. This opens the run dialogue.
2. Type, msconfig
Read that letter by letter.
3. Press enter and your start up should appear.
4. CTRL-tab until you get to the start up page.
5. Tab once and start arrowing down and unchecking the programs you do not want starting with Windows.
6. Apply all changes and reboot the machine.
7. If your running XP, check the box that says to not show the start up option again and tab to the ok button.
8. If you are running Windows 7, your done, happy computing.
Here's one more tip, run a disc clean up, and defrag your hard dri9ve. Also run CCleaner which is free.

Subject: need help, computer keeps getting slower and slower

Hey guys,
I need some help here. My computer, seems to keep getting slower and slower. I know programs love to come up on startup, cause they burry themselves in the startup menu. Any idea, how to strip out all the useless stuff from starting up. My computer takes 3 to 4 minutes to boot, and this is quite frankly unacceptable. It should take 45 seconds. Any ideas?
