Hello, no, GW connect can never be revived. The component, that allowed GW connect to communicate with the Skype service has been's discontinued by Microsoft. It should also be noted that relying on the Skype API for the desktop application is also unreliable, due to the fact, that Microsoft has officially discontinued support for the desktop Skype API. This means programs such as Skype talking will no longer function with Skype. The last version that Skype talking worked with reliably is Skype 6.21.
The good news of course is that Skype itself is extremely accessible and all of the events needed are supplied to the accessibility APIs. This means that your screen reader will be able to access all the information and provided to you in a meaningful manner. Thus eliminating the need for a specialized client. This of course assumes that you accept the idea that the need was ever there in the first place. I myself do not. I personally felt that a proprietary specialized client specifically for the blind was a bad idea. The events that I outlined above serves to demonstrate my view on this was correct. Now course, we must touch upon the universal app for Skype. The accessibility for this app is deplorable. Something should definitely be done about this by Microsoft of course not a I squared. That being said, this is true of most universal apps. When 99% of the apps available from the store say accessibility no. This should tell you that this is a problem that needs to be addressed. I do hope that it is addressed for Windows 10 because I would love to use Windows on all of my devices. I strongly believe that Windows 10 will be one operating system to rule them all. I hope that this answers your question. I also hope that I may be forgiven for providing some of my own views and thoughts on the matter. Thank you for reading!
