And don't forget, it's a standard Windows keyboard shortcut. So you can
use it in most programs to select all. It goes along with the Control-C
Copy and Control-V Paste commands.
For example, if you want to save a copy of an email message, just
Control-A to select all, Control-C to copy, open Word, Notepad, Etc.,
and Control-V to paste.
While F8 is a block select command available in some programs it's not
used all that much other than for when you want to do just that: select
a large block of text without having to hold down Control-Shift and
arrow through it all. In the Window-Eyes beta 9 it's currently the only
way to select parts of text in browse mode, such as in your browser,
email messages, and CHM help files, which are all using browse mode.

If you want to make a change to an entire Word document just use the
standard Windows Control-A Select all hot key.

I created an MS Word label document from an Excel file. Upon completion,
I realized the font wasn’t what I desired, but rather, it was the
default font in MS Word. I was able to change the font in the Excel
file, but when I recreated the new MS Word document, it was still in the
wrong font. I tried to select the entire document using the F8 process.
This didn’t work at all. Only the first word in the first line was
selected. I then tried going down by line using the shift-Down Arrow to
select text. After the first line or two, the entire lines were not
being selected. Furthermore, if I tried to select very many lines, MS
Word would stop working. I finally started going line by line and then
using the arrow keys to select individual characters. This process
ultimately worked, but by this method, I could only select onename at a
time to change the font. As you can imagine, this is quite tedious and
would be impractical for a large document. My document only had five
names and addresses in it. In any case, I could not save the changes I
had made to the label document, though it seemed to print correctly.
Some of these issues may be MS Word-related and not Window-Eyes related,
but I was wondering if anyone had experienced this? Since I hesitate to
send a list of names to the list, I will send the info to AI Squared so
they can work with it. This is with WE 9.0 Beta 2 and Windows 7
64-bit.Thanks.
