A bit late on this one, but if you are using Firefox and have the no script
addon installed, when you go to Google, forbid allscripts and Google will
behave as it used to.

The edit box on google.com is no longer an edit box and hasn't been for a
few months.
Google changed it to a combo box on their end. Perhaps your cache was
just cleared.
