I'm having the same problem. In IE11, I can backspace in a normal edit box, but in a password edit field, when I backspace I just get a bong.

Also in thunderbird, I still can't back space when I'm replying to a message, but I can backspace when I'm writing a new message. This is a BIG PROBLEM!

I'm running beta3 and windows 8.1.

Along the same line, in windows live mail 2012 in many cases when I backspace, I get a ding when typeing a reply to a message.

Subject: backspacing over typed characters in edit boxes

When using Google WE will not read the characters you are trying to
backspace over if you make a mistake in your typing. I know don't make
mistakes but WE has in the past read the characters being removed.
