David, Be sure that "Enable Support for UI Automation" is set to "yes" in the Window-Eyes Control Panel, "General," "other". If nothing else works for you, a temporary workaround that worked for me is to turn "Speak All" on with INSERT A. Once I set the file type to what I wanted, I turned that feature off again.
