It has been a very long time since I've posted anything to this list,
but what I am wondering about now is a very, very strange and disturbing
message that Window-eyes 9.0 continuously announces as long as I have
it, Window-eyes, running. Has anybody else been getting the
announcement, "Greetings on behalf of the Islamic state. The time of
repentence is near. Please contact Gw Micro for further information."? I
know, I know. It sounds like my system might have become infected by
some sort of malware, but I really don't think so. I am a Microsoft
certified systems engineer (MCSE for short) so I know a thing or two
about computers, yet having said that, here are the exact steps I took
to get this announcement to start continuously playing about every two
and a half to three minutes. I:
1. Woke up my computer by pressing the power button, as I had put it to
sleep this morning before leaving for work.
2. I was then, as would be expected based on this system's
configuration, presented with the welcome screen.
3. I arrowed to my username, and pressed enter.
4. I input my password, and pressed enter.
5. The desktop appeared, Window-eyes loaded, I manually started
Dropbox, I then alt tabbed in to Window-eyes and pressed alt F4 to shut
it down.
6. I pressed the spacebar to activate the OK button. Window-eyes closed.
7. I pressed the windows key, typed in k, l, a, n, g, o, and pressed
enter to launch an app known as the Klango player to ketch up on a
podcast I've been enjoying.
8. I caught up on the podcast (it's called the Leviothin Chronicles if
you're curious) and then completely exited Klango.
9. I pressed control alt w to relaunch Window-eyes, since I was again
back in Windows, meaning I was outside of a self-voicing application.
About two minutes after doing that I was getting ready to head to bed
when I heard Window-eyes say something out of the blue. "Hmm. That's
odd", I thought to myself, "I know Dropbox is already up-to-date, I have
no other apps actively running save Window-eyes, what did that say?"
10. Tired as I was, I waited out of curiosity to see if any other
announcements would be voiced, and sure enough, they were. This very,
very strange and disturbing message, proportedly coming from the Islamic
state, informing me that the time of repentence is near and instructing
me to please contact Gw Micro for further information was, and even as I
write this continues to be, repeated over, and over, and over. Thoughts?
