Arlene, When a java program starts, it is controlled by a Java Runtime Environment (called a JRE). There can be multiple JRE installations on a single machine which is one thing that is a challenge for both WE4Java and the Sun Java Access Bridge. If WE4Java is installed to the JRE directory which controls your java program, there will be a file called accessibility.properties which will tell java to automatically launch WE4Java when your program starts.
If you start a java program and get no speech from WE4Java, then the WE4Java software may not be installed to the JRE directory controlling that program. If this happens, you can use the Install WE4Java to a Java Environment option in the WE4Java program group under All Programs to locate and install the software. When java automatically loads WE4Java, it will automatically connect to Window-Eyes and send information about the java application to it. Let me know if you have additional questions.
