Updating packages is also possible from the add/remove packages dialogue
itself.

Jim,
Jamal's install package script, since it can tell you which of your
scripts has an update available, is the next best thing to what you're
asking for at the moment.
just thought I'd mention it in case you weren't using it.

the update feature will check for updates when the script starts.
this is cool and very well and good. how-ever if my system allows I
keep my system running at all times. so I thought a feature that
would also allow the user the option of specifying an interval that
the scripts could check for updates would also be a good idea. I
would still like an automatic update feature that would just
automatically check for script updates and install them. thanks.
