Subject: RE: WE7.5.1 and OpenOffice

Jay is having issues sending email to the list, but wanted me to forward
this to the list:

"WE4Java is, as yet, not compatible with Open Office. Open Office makes the
java accessibility framework available and that is why the Java Access
bridge and NVDA have some success in accessing it. However, Open Office does
not actually use the Java swing controls in painting the screen. WE4Java
uses a combination of the accessibility framework and extracting information
directly from the java objects in order to do what it does. Therefore, it
can't get everything it needs from Open Office to track and read everything
correctly.

My more recent efforts, when I have a minute, on WE4Java have been in trying
to develop a version which is compatible with 64-bit Java runtime
environments. However, that time has been extremely limited.

I have considered just creating a zip of the WE4Java project source and
putting it out on Dropbox and opening it up for other developers."

No, I am not. You would need to contact the author, Jay Macarty, the author
noted on the app. However, it appears he has not logged into App Central
for over a year.

In its current state, WE4JAVA will not make Open Office usable with
Window-Eyes.

Hi Roy:
I have never tried Open Office, but I understand that it is a
Java-based suite of applications, and therefore, it does not work with
Window-eyes.
