Hi Steve:
Regarding Switching to the Virtual channel and the prior question about this
step:
Here is the section I am not clear on:
From the docs and my question:
1. Run Window-Eyes on the client machine.
My computer is the Client, the one I will use to log onto the host machine
which is running Remote DeskTop.
Since I have WE setup to start when I boot up my computer, does this satisfy
this step?
In other words, WE will already be running on the client before I try and
log into the host.
You didn't mean to start a second instance of WE if I read it right. You
just mean to have WE running on the client before trying to log on to the
remote host machine.
Does this sound right?
You mentioned that after we install Virtual Channel support on the host I
would "switch" to use Virtual Channel on my Client machine when starting a
Remote Session .
Is the below process for doing that. And, on which machine is this all done?
2. Run Window-Eyes via a remote session.
OK, this is where I start getting confused.
How do I run WindowEyes via a Remote Session?
I cant find anyplace in the WE Control Panel or under the WE Menus to do
this so far and nothing in the docs.
3. From the remote session, select the "Virtual (Microsoft RDP)" synthesizer
in the
Synthesizers section located in the Devices node within the Window-Eyes
control panel.
At this point, the remote copy of Window-Eyes will begin transferring speech
to the
local copy of Window-Eyes.
Again what does From the Remote Session Mean?
I envision 2 computers a Host and a Client with a Remote Session being the
conceptual model of the specific technicals involved in allowing for remote
connections.
Which computer, the host or the Client, is the machine where I select the
"Virtual (Microsoft RDP)" synthesizer from the Devices node?
And, how do I start a Remote Session or start WindowEyes from a Remote
Session without actually logging on to the host.
If there is someplace in the WE Control Panel, the Menus or the Docs I am
missing let me know and I will check it out before trying this out or before
getting back to you with any further questions.
I found the Virtual Channel and Video maint objects under the Windows Start
menu as well as the Video settings under the Device Node of the WE Control
Panel.
I couldnt find anything about starting a remote session or starting
windoweyes from a remote session so far unless I have missed it.
How do I start WindowEyes from a Remote Session?
Thanks for the help Steve:

Steve, thank you for your answers.
I'll ReRead the article with these definitions and procedures in mind and
see if I can get this puppy running.

Hi Steve:
I am not clear on how to enable WE for Remote Desktop use on 2 XP Pro
machines:
I am not clear on which machine is considered the host and which the
client.
I would normally consider the host machine the one that you would log
into to perform operations on that machine.
I would consider the client any computer anyplace on the network that
tries to log into the host computer do do work on the host computer via
Remote Desktop.
I also consider a server something like Windows 2003 or Windows 2008.
So if you could address the next 3 questions it would help:
1) does the section on Enabling Window-Eyes Video Support apply to my
situation where both the Host computer and the Client computers are
running XP Pro and WE 7.3.5?
If so is it set up on the Host machine, the Client machine or both?
Yes; it does. The setup only needs to occur on the host machine.
2) Do we setup the Virtual Channel for the windows XP machines and, if
so, which one or both?
You install the virtual channel support on the machine hosting the
connection. Then, while you're using the remote copy from your client,
switch to the virtual channel to have your local synthesizer produce all
of the speech.
3) When you talk about running WindowEyes on the client does this apply
if both the client and the host already have windoweyes running since
both of us are blind and have WE started at computer BootUp on our xp
machines.
I don't understand this question. If you are asking if both machine must
have Window-Eyes installed, then the answer is yes.

Steve
