Window-Eyes 8.0: New Features Webinar Recording Now Available for Download!Hi!
I have both visual 2008 and 2010 installed. In the 2008 I installed the VB
first, then installed the vc which installed C++ to that IDE.
In both 2008 and 2010 I have the same thing in both now.
I also made a MakeX.bat batch file to be able to make a .exe file from my
code and that works fine in both 2008 and 2010
Now in the VB or visual Basic part the lists of stuff is much better in the
2008 version.
In the 2010 version in order to add objects the only way to get to it is
display it's properties and edit those properties to tell that object what to
do and where to be.
That is as far as I can go, in both cases I added the SQL server as a check
box for both installs. I guess I won't know if that causes problems until later
when I want to do some data base stuff.
So, in the express version in both cases there were 4 choices and the first
one is the Visual Basic package, first on the list. The names were not very
clear, and certainly Windoweyes would not have pronounced them the way they
were spelled, but I figured that one out when reading each name letter by
letter for you can install CNumber and stuff which I did not want.
At the moment, the C++ package works fine and added a makeX batch file for
easy compile a .cpp to an .exe file, using the switch settings they tell you to
use in the help tutorial.
The rest is studying the Visual Basic Reference manual.
I guess the question to ask now is what electronic book is the best one to
use for study?
Thanks, Bruce

Bruce: Let me check it out since my first glance is that might be the
whole package and a whole lot of things you dont need nor want to muck with
trying to install and uninstall.
Especially the Sql Server can trash your machine if you make a mistake so
hold off installing if you havent so far and I will check that download and
find a good one if that is not a good one.
I will do that right now.

Hi Bruce: You can get through it if you can use vb.net 2008 which is
almost identical to 2010.
The language and pretty much all the controls (windows controls) are
identical.
WindowEyes works well with the IDE once you set it up for accessibility
and it doesnt need any scripts.
Those things that are a bit tricky I have found work-arounds for and can
help you there as well as with your projects, cant do them but can help with
tutoring if you want.
I use vb.net 2008 all the time with WindowEyes and can do pretty much
everything except muck with WPF stuff which I dont think is very accessible.
I also have not worked with the Debugger, if you learn it you can teach
me, but I think it is accessible, at least I hear JAWS users talk about using
it off and on.
If your instructor will let you work around any inaccessible features or
designs I think you have the background to excel in vb.net since it is so
similar to vbs and you already know logic design.
If you drop the course you can take your time learning the IDE and that
would help you get a better grade perhaps. In either case I will help you set
up vb.net for accessibility and tutor you if you want.
That said, I am not sure where to get that version of vb.net express
anymore but can check it out if your instructor gives you approval.
Otherwise 2010 is accessible enough so long as hyou dont use the designer
and if absolutely necessary NVDA will work to do something there and then you
can switch back to WindowEyes but you can try and avoid the Designer in many
ways.
Let me know if you can use 2008 or if you have to use 2010 in the class
and I will see what is available.
